Description

The 4010 S was a four-head, two speed (3¾ & 7½ ips) tape deck with a 7″ reel capacity and three separate motors. Like many of the late 60’s Japanese tape decks, it was equipped with auto-reverse functionality (playback only). Controls were fairly spartan and consisted of two large VU meters, microphone and line input level controls and a line-output level control. Other features included tape tension control, input mixing and tape monitoring (selectable from either the playback head during recording or the source).
The transport and the preamplifier on the 4010 are separated so in theory you could hook up a different tape head preamp or use the RA-4oS Preamplifier as a microphone preamp.

An early article about quadraphonic reproduction in electronics illustrated May 1970 features an A-4010SRA with  2 RA-4oS Preamplifiers for 4 channel reproduction (pictured)

Various other 4010 models were made over many years including the A-4010SL  and A-4010GSL.

The 4010 does not seem to be as reliable as most of the Teac tape recorders as at any given time you will see a 3 to 1 ratio of 4010s being sold for parts or service.
