Description
The A-5300 was a quarter-track stereo auto reverse (playback only) tape deck with three motors: direct capstan drive motor (servo-controlled) and two d.c. reel motors with independent tape tension sensors. Constant tape tension was maintained in all operating modes (including wind and braking procedures).Features included four high density ferrite heads (1 erase, 1 record and 2 play – one in each direction) and two recording speeds. 7½ and 3¾ ips.
A sophisticated ‘Fail Safe’ auto stop logic operated in all transport modes. Logic control monitored tape motion, tape tension and photo electric ‘end of tape’ sensors, giving auto stopping the machine at end of reel, in the event of external reel jamming or tape breakage. Other features included push-button transport controls, separate bias & eq switches, remote control for all functions and memory marker level guides.
