X-10R: quarter-track stereo, bi-directional record and playback, six heads, 7½ and 3¾ ips

Features common to all were: dual capstan drive, 4-digit tape counter, mic/line mixing capability, record mute function button, two large, base-lit VU meters, ±6% speed pitch control, timer start and track record select for recording one track at a time (multi-tracking).
A frequency generator servo DC motor maintained a constant tape speed and electromagnetic braking was used on the reel motors.
There was provision for connecting an external dbx noise reduction unit and remote control.
MkII versions of the X-10 and X-10R were introduced in 1981.
