Description

As the X-10M was a consumer deck (not a Tascam) and not top-of-the-line (X-2000M) Combine that with the fact that quarter track was easily selling 80+%  against half track at the time and we have a real rarity here. The other thing that makes it rare is the styling of it.
Example top-of-the-line in this series was X-2000 and at the same time Teac was marketing the X-20, a very similar machine internally with a different external appearance.
Try finding an X-20 these days and you will realize that over 9/10 sales went to the 2000 side. X-10’s and X-20s although interesting in their stylish way, appearance wise, were not great sellers.  Very few produced and sold. Likely less than the other rarities of this Teac lineup, the X-20R & X-1000M (Japan). A closed loop dual capstan system with three 1/2 Track heads delivered a very respectable 30Hz-30kHz at 15ips. A 5mm thick front panel holds a heavy-weight motor and flywheel securely. NAB-BTS (IEC) equalization.

Another rarity that it seems was only available in Japan was the X-1000M

If you own an X series Teac you may want to read the Service Considerations detail on capstan motor issues.
